Yes, emotion runs deep in investment management. Why? Because it is meant to protect us from this future that we are unable to grasp. If you ponder it, the children of your clients will be retiring in around 2060. Nobody has the faintest idea what’s going to happen by then. Despite all the expertise we all put on parade during presentations, despite all the certainty we project with risk metrics and financial charts. We have no idea what the world is going to look like in 5 years time never mind 50 and yet we are trusted by clients as guardians of their future generations.
So take a deep breath …. today I hope explain how the technology world is placing emotion at the heart of your job as a financial advisor, whilst taking away the actual act of asset allocation. The financial advisor of the future is the family doctor of today. The person who places a wet rag on your sweating brow and refers you to a good specialist.
