This is the first piece I ever made and I recently re-did it incorporating everything I have learned since starting my art journey.

In this sculpture I map the morphic relationship we have with our ancestors. It is a wedding photo of my grandparents. Physically it is relatively easy to understand how I am made partly of these two people. 

But what about the choices they made in their lives? I have often tried to digest the concept that part of my complexity and creativity derives in some way from this union of minds so long ago.  It is said in the Kabbalah that the results of your actions can manifest in your descendants up to 7 generations later.  We are connected to those that came before us in a more holistic way than pure genetics. Our long term legacies are the fruit of both 'what we are made of' and 'the choices we make in life'.
