Ascending Horse

Silver, Copper and Stainless Steel | 40 x 40 x 45 cm | 18 + 3 Artist Proofs

This sculpture, a collaborative and loving creation by Jonty and Yifat, is a tribute to the spirit of horses and the deeper meanings they embody. Jonty's inspiration stems from his childhood encounters with wildlife and the time he spent among horses on the secluded bridle paths of the English countryside. His work reflects on the concept of freedom, portraying the often-unseen inner lives of domesticated animals.

Yifat, with her background in education, recognizes the transformative power horses have in boosting children's confidence and self-efficacy.

Together, their artwork captures the essence of the wild horse, while also acknowledging the paradox of these creatures being under human ownership. The sculpture pays homage to the innate qualities of independence, freedom, and love that horses and other domesticated animals inherently possess, despite the disconnect between modern civilization and nature. This piece delves into the relationship between animals and their natural environments, the dynamics of freedom and its absence, and the attempts of our scientifically advanced society to control it. Despite these constraints, the sculpture celebrates the ability of these noble animals to bring joy and enlightenment to those who interact with them.
