understanding peace

A tribute to Nelson Mandela

75 x 75 x 14 cm | Aluminium, Cotton & ink | 2020 | Edition of 33

I remember exactly where I was in 2013 when I read the news that Nelson Mandela had died on December 5 at age 95.  How does one begin to understand the delicacy, empathy, and resolve needed to manifest peace in a volatile society?   This artwork is an attempt to express the beauty and complexity of Mandela's peace through the language of visual art and mathematics.

Growing up in South Africa in the 80's, it is hard to express the impact that Nelson Mandela has had on my spiritual path.

Using the language of anamorphism, this work tries to encapsulate the depth and complexity of Mandela's impact on society and my own soul.
